GUTU Magistrate Mitchell Panavanhu last week sentenced Goodson Matanda (51) to one year jail term for assaulting a Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) member Shamiso Madondo in June this year.
Matanda will, however, do 315 hours after Magistrate Panavanhu suspended part of the sentence on condition of good behaviour and completion of the community service.
Matanda, who resides in Gutu, Masvingo, was arrested in June following a verbal altercation with FAZ members stationed at a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) voters roll inspection centre.
FAZ is a ruling Zanu-PF party affiliate.
Matanda was charged with assault as defined in section 89(1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors alleged that on June 1 and at Rafamoyo Primary School in Gutu, Matanda assaulted Madondo, who had been deployed at the school, writing down details of people inspecting the voters roll.
The prosecutors alleged that Matanda arrived and took pictures of Madondo and Zanu-PF political party members.
A misunderstanding reportedly arose.
Matanda, prosecutors alleged, assaulted Madondo during the altercation accusing her of being an agent of Zanu-PF.
Matanda was being represented by Dereck Charamba of Ndlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners.
