ZANU-PF legislator for Harare South constituency, Trymore Kanopula and a current secretly serving member of the Generation40 faction, Shadreck Mashayamombe recruited and dispatch vicious youths who are masquerading with machetes in Hopley and waterfalls while commiting heinous crimes, whistleblowers and residents associations representatives have said.
According to documents received by this publication, the whistleblowers alleged that Shadreck Mashayamombe and Kanopula are the major land barons in Harare South and they can kill in order to conceal their criminality.
"Several residents have been issued with death threats by Kanopula and Mashayamombe in the company of some vicious youths whom they recruited. The gangs move around with machetes while terrorising residents," one of the whistleblowers said.
"These guys are part of the land cartels in Harare and they manipulated all systems of the state. We supplied all necessary information and evidence to critical state institutions including the presidium, but nothing has materialized," the whistleblower said.
One of the residents representative from Waterfalls, Tendeukai Justice Taruva has claimed that his efforts to get assistance from the year 2020 have proven to be a futile exercise.
"There are several letters which I wrote from 2020 to March 2024 while addressed to then Local Government Minister, July Moyo and Marian Chombo, including the Presidium of Zimbabwe pertaining Lot 4 scandal which was neither responded to nor acted upon," Taruva said.
"I even tried to seek audience with Vice President Kembo Mohadi in order to address the corruption and criminality of Kanopula and Mashayamombe, but it failed. I engaged the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, they never acted on the scandals in Harare South (Hopley) and Waterfalls. No arrests have been effected despite the fact that we provide evidence," Taruva added.
"We reported about the machete gangs who have been terrorising residents, nothing was done. Several home-seekers have been duped their hard-earned monies by Kanopula and Mashayamombe linked companies and deployees, but nothing has been done until today," he added.
Meanwhile, both Kanopula and Mashayamombe threatened that they can shoot and kill anyone threatening their successful land business, claiming that it is their means for survival.
"I heard by comrade Kanopula that you are pursuing issues about our land in Harare South and Waterfalls. Let me tell you, we can shoot to kill if there is anyone trying to temper with our land. It's private property and we paid for several pieces of land in Harare," Mashayamombe said.
"I fear no one on this land it is my duty to defend my investments. I have been hardened by the military during restore legacy and I fear no-one. This is politics and if you allow yourselves to be involved in politics, brace for any outcome. Beware you might be a victim of politics and do not be used by land barons," Mashayamombe added.
"I own several hactares of land in Harare and everything we are doing is above board. Go everywhere and you will observe that we own several pieces of land in Harare and don't dare inquire about our land ownership with Kanopula," Mashayamombe fumed.
When contacted for comment, Kanopula said he is not interested in responding to the issue.
"Comrade, do not call me again. Please never try that or publish anything of that sort. You are a nuisance to my life. Nonsense!," Kanopula said before hanging the call.
Shadreck Mashayamombe and Kanopula have been reportedly fingered in land scandals throughout Harare South and Waterfalls. Some of their critics have either been forcibly evicted or left for dead after they unleash youths armed with machetes.
Several residents have complained that fighting has always been order of the day, as land deals by Kanopula and Mashayamombe results in double allocations, fake offer letters, among other counterfeit city council papers disguised for regularisation.
