Get ready for a night of laughter and fun this holiday season as The Prodigals Comedy Show takes center stage at Cotton Lounge on December 20. The star-studded comedy event will feature four of Zimbabwe's finest comedians - Chik Aljoy, General Lesley, CKanyiso Dat Guy, and Zwe - promising an unforgettable evening of humor and entertainment.
The show, aptly named The Prodigals, is a tribute to headliners Chik Aljoy and CKanyiso Dat Guy, who have both built impressive reputations outside of Bulawayo in South Africa and Harare, respectively. The event is dubbed a "homecoming show," celebrating their return to their roots and marking a special reunion with their Bulawayo fans.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, the event organiser and publicist, Ms. Mo, explained the significance of the event. "The comedy show has been dubbed The Prodigals as a way to salute two main acts, Chik Aljoy and CKanyiso Dat Guy, who are both working outside of Bulawayo," she said. "It's a show reminiscent of families coming together at the end of the year to celebrate life, despite the challenges they've faced. It's a homecoming show, full of warmth and laughter."
The comedians themselves are eager to give the city an unforgettable performance. CKanyiso Dat Guy shared his excitement about the event, admitting that the preparation has been intense. "The preparations are crazy, writing new sets and rehearsing has been the hardest. But I am getting the hang of it. I'm challenging myself to the limits to give a good performance and ensure the audience has a great night," he said.
CKanyiso teased the crowd with promises of an engaging and fun-filled night. "Fans should expect to enjoy themselves, learn, laugh, and leave with stories to tell for days. Let the fun begin!" he added.
Meanwhile, Chik Aljoy is also eager to take the stage in his hometown. "Comedy fans should expect a great night of laughter and thought-provoking performances. We're ready to bring our best. With Mo organizing everything, the show is coming together perfectly," he said.
Opening the show will be General Lesley, who is excited to set the tone for the event. "Looking at the lineup, it's clear that this will be the biggest comedy event in Bulawayo. I've watched CKanyiso, and he's amazing; Chik Aljoy is a comedy beast, and Zwe has been performing excellently. Anyone attending should be ready to laugh till it hurts because their ribs are going to be cracking!" he said.
Chik Aljoy, a Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) holder and ventriloquist, alongside Zwe, who has also won a BAA, will be joined by General Lesley, who recently wowed audiences with his one-man show at the Bulawayo Theatre, and CKanyiso, who is a rising star on the Harare comedy circuit.
The Prodigals Comedy Show promises to be the ultimate holiday entertainment experience, and fans are encouraged to get their tickets early for what is expected to be a sold-out event. With an all-star lineup and high-energy performances, Bulawayo will be the place to be on December 20th!
