MTN has announced an extension of Group CEO Ralph Mupita's contract until 31 August 2030. It was originally set to run until 30 September 2025.
The company says the MTN Group board of directors approved the contract extension after the mobile operator reached an agreement with Mupita.
"The extension of Ralph's tenure will provide important continuity during a period of significant global and regional uncertainty," said MTN Group chair Mcebisi Jonas.
"It will allow MTN to effectively navigate the complex geopolitical dynamics, market volatility, and macroeconomic challenges affecting the business."
"Additionally, it will ensure that the company remains focused on its strategic priorities and continues to deliver on its commitments to shareholders and broader shareholders," he added.
Mupita has held the MTN Group CEO position since September 2020. He replaced Rob Shuter, who stepped down on 31 August that year.
He had previously served as CFO of MTN Group since April 2017.
"Ralph has served as the MTN Group CFO since April 2017 and has played a critical role in the development and execution of the group's strategy, capital allocation processes, financial performance as well as in the resolution of a number of complex regulatory matters," MTN said.
"Ralph's experience as the group CFO, strong knowledge of our businesses and markets, as well as successful background in financial services, M&A and emerging markets, place him in an excellent position to lead the growth and sustainability of the business going forward," added Jonas.
