Chaos erupted in Cowdray Park when police raided a wild Vuzu party in the early hours of May 24, 2025, arresting 13 youths caught red-handed engaging in alcohol consumption, drug use, and what insiders described as "unprotected sex orgies." The party was hosted by 21-year-old Thabiso Sibanda at house number 5580, a seven-roomed, gated home with a durawall, where no parental supervision was present. According to police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, officers on patrol were alerted by loud music and shouting before storming the premises just after midnight.

Among those arrested were teenagers and young adults aged between 17 and 21, including Ryan Jena (18), Kingstone Mufunda (17), Mbongeni Shoniwa (17), Melissa Ncube (18), and Princess Khumalo (18) from Emganwini, along with others from Pumula South and Nkulumane 5. Inspector Msebele noted that the host lives with his sister while their parents are in Botswana, which contributed to the lack of supervision.

Vuzu parties have gained notoriety in Bulawayo for their reckless and explicit nature, often involving heavy drinking, drug use, and group sex without protection. Past incidents captured on video have shocked the public, showing teenagers passed out or engaging in extreme behavior. Police have expressed serious concern, urging parents to keep a closer watch on their children's activities to prevent these gatherings, which pose not only moral but also health risks through substance abuse and risky sexual practices.

Residents of Cowdray Park were left shaken by the revelations. One neighbour lamented, "These kids are playing with fire. We never imagined such a thing was happening behind closed doors in our street." The 13 arrested individuals have since been charged, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
