Former Minister of Finance Ignatius Chombo is alive and in good health, contrary to widespread rumours circulating on social media claiming he had died of prostate cancer. The clarification came from Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Minister Marian Chombo, who also happens to be his former wife.

Social media platforms were abuzz early Monday with unverified reports alleging that Chombo had passed away at a private hospital in Harare. The rumours quickly gained traction, prompting concern and confusion among members of the public.

However, Marian Chombo moved swiftly to dispel the speculation.

"He is alive and kicking. He is at his home," she said in an interview with reporters, firmly shutting down the false claims.

Ignatius Chombo, a veteran politician and long-serving Cabinet member, has previously been the subject of health-related rumours, but no official confirmation of any critical condition has ever been made public.

The recent scare serves as a reminder of the growing influence - and potential harm - of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly when it involves prominent public figures.
