The Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs) have extended their nominations deadline by a week, with entries now closing on September 15, 2025, as organisers move to maximise participation ahead of the event's long-awaited return.

The extension, announced on the awards' official Facebook page on Monday, was attributed to technical glitches on the submission platform.

"We are back. Due to a technical hitch on our site, the Bulawayo Arts Awards 2025 nominations period has been extended to 15 September 2025," read the statement.

In a rallying call to artists, organisers added: "If you haven't submitted yet, this is your chance. Don't miss out on being part of Bulawayo's biggest celebration of creative excellence."

The eighth edition of the BAAs is scheduled for November 8, 2025, at Hall 3 of the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre.

The announcement has reignited excitement in the arts sector after a year of uncertainty. In 2024, the awards were postponed following the withdrawal of Roil, the flagship cooking oil brand of United Refineries Limited, which had been the principal sponsor for years. Financial constraints and concerns over "limited representation across certain genres" also influenced the decision, with the BAA Trust pledging a strategic revamp to make the event more inclusive in 2025.

With nominations now extended, the spotlight shifts to upcoming milestones. Nominees will be unveiled on October 8, 2025, during the traditional nominees' dinner, where the People's Choice Award sponsor will also be revealed. Organisers will use the occasion to announce a second wave of sponsors, considered vital for ensuring the event's financial stability.

The BAAs, now in their eighth year, remain one of the most important cultural fixtures in Zimbabwe, celebrating talent across music, theatre, film, literature, fashion, and digital media.
