Armed robbery suspect denied bail

A 31-year-old Harare man, Tafadzwa Mbombo, was on Tuesday denied bail when he appeared before magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai facing charges of armed robbery.
Mbombo was remanded in custody to September 29, 2025, pending the finalisation of investigations.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarawe opposed bail, arguing that the offence was serious and carried a likely custodial sentence. He further submitted that Mbombo could interfere with State witnesses since they live in the same neighbourhood.
According to the State, on September 5 this year, Mbombo and his alleged accomplices attacked 30-year-old John Brian Tuzora, striking him on the right eye with an unknown object. Tuzora's eye was later removed after being permanently damaged in the assault.
The assailants allegedly robbed Tuzora of a cellphone, US$40, and a wallet containing his personal documents.
On the same day, the gang is said to have attacked another man, John Chikwaka (38), who was on his way home from work at Hatcliffe Dam. Mbombo allegedly struck him twice on the head, once on the jaw, and several times on the back before robbing him of US$30.
The attackers fled the scene after both incidents, and investigations are ongoing.
