Chivhayo's lavish car gifting sparks public debate

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo's ongoing gifting of luxury vehicles - mostly to individuals aligned with Zanu PF - has ignited fierce debate among Zimbabweans, with opinions sharply divided over the gesture's intent and impact.

Some view the donations as generous and uplifting, while others dismiss them as partisan and self-serving.

Social media user Snowball Tongogara posted on X (formerly Twitter):  
"I would rather celebrate local businessmen like @wicknellchivayo, who give back to the community. Many people in Harare are driving today because of his generosity."

He argued that Chivhayo stands apart from other businessmen who spend extravagantly on themselves.

But another user, Gio Hla, challenged the narrative:  
"Zimbabwe has 13 million people. How many have been gifted cars by Weaky besides a few celebrities and clowns he likes? You don't give a man fish daily - you teach him how to fish. Zimbos don't like his gifts. We prefer he stops the corruption and stealing so he earns an honest living."

User Mazibaba echoed the criticism, saying Chivhayo's generosity is politically selective:  
"He gives to Zanu PF supporters, not back to the community. Nothing generous about that exercise. We all see, hear, and know that he employs no one and doesn't have a legit business - just registered vehicles for public funds heists."

Noel Tsendemu added:  
"There's a difference between giving back to the community and giving Zanu PF people. And also buying people to support Zanu PF."

The debate continues to rage online, with many questioning the source of Chivhayo's wealth and the political implications of his high-profile giveaways.
