Harare provincial magistrate, Mrs Lisa Mutendereki, has remanded Robert Mugabe Junior in custody after he was charged with the unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The State, represented by Mandirasa Chigumira, opposed bail, arguing that the rising prevalence of drug and substance abuse poses a threat to national stability and development.

Mugabe Junior's lawyer, Mr Ashliegh Mugiya, countered that his client is not a flight risk, citing his fixed abode, and submitted that he is a proper candidate for bail. Magistrate Mutendereki deferred the matter to tomorrow for a ruling on the bail application.

Court proceedings revealed that on Tuesday, 1 October 2025, at around 8pm, police officers from ZRP Avondale conducting a traffic blitz along Second Street Extension, Harare, stopped Mugabe Junior. He was driving a silver Honda Fit (registration number AGY 5850) against traffic en route to town.

During a search of a black sling bag worn across his chest, police reportedly seized two sachets of dagga, a pack of rolling papers, and a white dagga crusher. Mugabe Junior was subsequently arrested.

The court heard that he was issued with an Exhibit Seizure Confirmation Receipt (Serial number withheld) but refused to sign it. The seized dagga was weighed at Harare Main Post in Mugabe's presence, with a total weight of 72 grammes. A weighing certificate has been obtained and can be produced as an exhibit in court.

Authorities have estimated the street value of the seized dagga at approximately US$30.

The bail ruling is expected tomorrow.
