Police have arrested three suspects accused of carrying out a spate of armed robberies across Bulawayo, including a daring daylight heist on Leopold Takawira Avenue on Friday in which US$36,000 and a cellphone were stolen.

The suspects, identified as Nehemiah Dladla (38), Simon Dube (28), and Sekai Vhumbunu (45), were arrested on October 3 following a dramatic chase, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed.

According to police, detectives from CID Homicide Bulawayo tracked Dladla after receiving intelligence linking him to the Friday robbery. He was intercepted in Mbundane after a high-speed pursuit. During interrogation, Dladla allegedly implicated Dube, who was subsequently arrested near Nketa 6 Service Station. Vhumbunu, described as an illegal money changer, was also taken into custody after being accused of supplying inside information on potential targets.

Police recovered US$2,000 and a Toyota Fortuner believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle.

The trio has been linked to at least four armed robberies. Among them was an August 10 incident at a restaurant on the corner of Fife Street and 12th Avenue, where US$4,000 and ZAR60,000 were stolen from a motorist at gunpoint, and a September 3 robbery at Nkolozi Investments, where US$16,668 and ZAR151,800 were taken.

Commissioner Nyathi commended the public for providing critical leads that led to the arrests. He urged citizens to continue reporting criminal activity through the police hotline (0242) 703631 or via WhatsApp on 0712800197.
