The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development (MoTID) has announced a temporary five-day closure of Glenara Road in Harare to allow for essential rehabilitation works. The closure, part of the government's Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP), will affect a key section between the Service Station and Samora Machel Avenue.

The ERRP was launched following a 2021 declaration of a national state of disaster due to deteriorating road conditions. The programme aims to repair and upgrade significant portions of Zimbabwe's road network to enhance safety, stimulate economic activity, and improve access to health, education, and market services.

In a statement, MoTID confirmed that Glenara Road would be partially closed to through traffic to facilitate the ongoing works. The ministry assured the public that properties within the construction zone would remain accessible and that traffic management personnel would be on site to assist residents and businesses.

Motorists travelling from ED Mnangagwa Road have been advised to follow a designated detour via Glen Roy, Sloane Street, Montgomery Road, and Rhodesville Avenue before rejoining Glenara Road at Samora Machel Avenue.

The ministry urged drivers to adhere to all posted traffic signs, follow instructions from officials, reduce speed in the affected area, and allow extra travel time to avoid delays. The rehabilitation project is part of broader efforts that have already seen major upgrades on the country's highways, reflecting the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer travel for all road users.
