Police in Masvingo Province have launched an extensive manhunt for 24-year-old Takudzwa Chagwiza, who is wanted in connection with a kidnapping and unlawful detention case that occurred on October 16 near Mangoro Village, under Chief Mazungunye in Bikita District.

According to a statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Province, Chagwiza allegedly lured a six-year-old boy who was walking home from school by offering him a pack of Zapnack crunchies before asking for help carrying firewood to a nearby area. The suspect then disappeared with the child, taking him to an unknown destination.

Police have described the incident as deeply concerning, adding that preliminary investigations suggest this may not be Chagwiza's first offence of this nature.

In July 2025, the suspect was reportedly involved in a similar abduction, in which a nine-year-old child was kidnapped and kept hidden in a mountain for several days before being rescued.

Authorities say Chagwiza has a history of such crimes, and the case is being treated with the utmost urgency.

"We are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in locating both the suspect and the missing child to come forward immediately," said the police statement.

Residents in Bikita and surrounding communities have been urged to remain vigilant, particularly in monitoring the movements of strangers in their areas.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chief Inspector Morgan Chatikobo on 0772 549 755, the Masvingo Press and Public Relations Section at 0392 264 421, or send a message via WhatsApp on 0775 996 945. Members of the public may also report directly to any nearest police station.
