Masarira implores ED to extend salary increments to civil servants

LEAD president Linda Tsungirirai Masarira has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend the salary increases recently awarded to ZANU‑PF party workers to civil servants and parastatal employees, saying this would align with his mantra of "leaving no one and no place behind".

"We note the reported salary adjustments for ZANU‑PF party workers under the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa. In the same spirit of leaving no one and no place behind, we implore the President to extend this consideration to civil servants and parastatal workers who carry the daily burden of saving and serving the nation," Masarira said.

She said the country's essential workforce - including doctors, nurses, teachers, social workers, civil registry staff, engineers, technicians, and workers in water, power and transport sectors - formed the backbone of national service and deserved equitable treatment.

Masarira argued that if fiscal space existed to adjust party salaries, then fairness demanded similar relief for public servants whose wages had been eroded by inflation and currency instability.

"Morale, productivity and service delivery are inseparable from dignified pay. We therefore call for immediate, across‑the‑board salary reviews for civil servants and parastatal workers, benchmarked to the cost of living, with transparent timelines and a public implementation framework to avoid selective application," she said.

She added that sustainable remuneration reforms, including periodic indexation, were necessary to ensure workers were not "perpetually chasing prices".

"Zimbabwe cannot be rebuilt on selective upliftment. Nation‑building is powered by those who teach, heal, protect, register, engineer and serve every single day. Apply the same resolve shown to party workers to the servants of the people, and let fairness be the policy. For the dignity of work. For the dignity of service. For a Zimbabwe that truly leaves no one behind."
