DStv has announced a series of permanent changes aimed at retaining customers, including lower decoder prices, additional channels for its entry-level package, and a new split-payment option.
The updates were revealed on Tuesday as temporary festive period upgrades come to an end. MultiChoice, DStv's parent company owned by France's Canal+, said the focus is now on sustainable, long-term product improvements rather than short-term promotions.
"What matters now is how DStv fits into people's lives month after month," said MultiChoice CEO Willington Ngwepe.
Under the new changes, DStv's Access package now features three permanent additions: Trace Ngoma (formerly Trace Africa), Trace Gospel, and WWE. The company has also introduced a split-payment feature that allows customers to share the cost of a single subscription with another person through the MyDStv app.
In addition, decoder prices have been lowered to make the service more affordable. The HD Single View decoder will now cost R499, or R799 with installation. The Explora 3B decoder has been reduced to R1,499, while the Explora Ultra is now priced at R2,999. The lower pricing will remain in effect until April 30.
Ngwepe said the changes are intended to make DStv more accessible and convenient for customers, particularly those managing tight budgets. "We want customers to have options that make it easier to stay connected, even when budgets are tight," he said.
The move comes as DStv seeks to strengthen its position in the competitive pay-TV market while ensuring affordability and flexibility for subscribers.
