Uncle arrested over murder of niece and cousin

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of 29-year-old Obedience Makonye in connection with the murder of his niece, Elizabeth Munetsi (14) and his cousin Shepherd Makonye (nine) which occurred on January 26 at Gondora Mountain, Guyo B Village, in Zaka, Masvingo province.
In a statement posted on its X handle this Thursday evening, the ZRP said the suspect allegedly lured the two children, who were heading home from school to the mountain, where he allegedly sexually abused his niece Elizabeth in the presence of Shepherd.
The suspect went on to kill both victims to conceal the offence.
The bodies were allegedly dumped at the mountain.
The bodies of the victims were found at the mountain and a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered.
The suspect was arrested this Tuesday after confessing the heinous crime to the police.
In a separate incident, investigations into the murder of Steadfast Makondo, the ECD learner who went missing and found dead in Chiredzi, are underway with the police confirming the child had multiple bruises.
