Newly-elected Nkulumane legislator Freedom Murechu of Zanu-PF has been officially sworn in as a Member of Parliament, marking the start of his tenure in the National Assembly.

Murechu won the seat in a December by-election, which was held following the untimely death of the former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker, Desire Moyo, who passed away in a car accident last October.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Murechu pledged to uphold the Constitution of Zimbabwe and to faithfully execute his duties as a representative of the people of Nkulumane.

In a brief interview after the ceremony, Murechu emphasised his commitment to advancing the developmental priorities of his constituency. "I am honoured to serve the people of Nkulumane," he said. "My focus will be on amplifying their concerns in Parliament and working towards tangible social and economic development."

He added that community engagement would be central to his legislative approach, ensuring that his contributions in Parliament reflect the real needs and aspirations of Nkulumane residents.
