Mnangagwa promotes 2 army Colonels to Brigadier General

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promoted two Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) colonels to the rank of brigadier general in line with provisions of the Defence Act.

The officers, Carlos Dube and Jabulani Mulambo, were elevated following their recent appointments as brigade commanders. Brigadier General Dube now takes command of 3 Infantry Brigade in Mutare, while Brigadier General Mulambo assumes leadership of 2 Infantry Brigade in Harare.

The promotion ceremony was held at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare and was presided over by ZNA Commander Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, who officially conferred the new ranks.

Lt-Gen Tapfumaneyi said the promotions reflected distinguished service, leadership and dedication to duty.

"I am greatly honoured to preside over this memorable and prestigious event, which marks the promotion of Colonel KC Dube and Colonel J Mulambo… I wish to congratulate both of you on your promotion," he said.

He said the elevations demonstrated President Mnangagwa's confidence in the officers in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, adding that their advancement followed a rigorous assessment process.

"Your promotion is testimony to your possession of the required qualities and attributes of military leadership at General level," he said.

Lt-Gen Tapfumaneyi urged the newly promoted generals to exercise sound judgement and strategic leadership in their new roles, noting that senior command positions come with increased responsibility and expectations.

"As leaders, never undermine the collective contributions of a team… more will be expected from you by both your superiors and subordinates," he said.

He also emphasised the importance of adaptability in a changing operational environment and linked the promotions to national development priorities under the National Development Strategy 2 and Vision 2030.

"Our country is going through a transitional economic and institutional revitalisation phase… Let us all be seen to be actively contributing to this patriotic cause," he said.

The promotions mark a key career milestone for the two officers as they take up senior command roles within the army hierarchy.
