A 29-year-old man from Norton has appeared before a Harare magistrate facing fraud charges after allegedly posing as an employee of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to secure a loan.
Tawanda Jokonya is accused of defrauding Yambukai Finance of US$29,000 by presenting falsified documents to support his loan application.
The court heard that Jokonya allegedly submitted forged employment confirmation letters, payslips purportedly from Parirenyatwa Hospital, records linked to PSMAS, and vehicle registration books to misrepresent his financial standing.
Prosecutors allege that the accused deliberately misled the microfinance institution, resulting in financial prejudice.
Jokonya is expected to return to court this Tuesday for his bail application as the matter progresses through the judicial system.
The case adds to a growing number of fraud-related matters involving the use of falsified employment and financial documents to access credit facilities.
