A fugitive Bindura man who stabbed a police officer while resisting arrest has been jailed five years after being tracked down years later.

Tatenda Boarder Muringai (25) was sentenced to an effective five‑year prison term by Bindura magistrate Elisha Singano on an attempted murder charge.

The court heard that on 25 December 2023, police officer Evidence Makuni went to Nyava Business Centre in Bindura to arrest Muringai, who was wanted for a robbery case.

When the officer identified himself, Muringai allegedly became violent and, together with his brother, attempted to resist arrest. He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer in the stomach.

Makuni fell to the ground, and Muringai fled the scene. He remained at large until his recent arrest.

Clever Nyapfani prosecuted.
