High school pupils jailed 15 years for raping schoolmate

Regional Magistrate Sekai Chiwundura has sentenced two former Masasi High School pupils to 15 years in jail after convicting them of raping a minor schoolmate last year.
The duo (names withheld) were sentenced to 10 years each for rape and five years on a charge of aggravated indecent assault.
Magistrate Chiwundura suspended the sentence because the convicts were minors aged 17 and 16 when they committed the offences.
The incident happened on February 8, 2025 around 4pm and one of the convicts recorded videos of the rape which widely circulated on social media.
Circumstances are that the two convicts were walking home from school in the company of the minor whom they raped and assaulted.
Along the way, they took complainant to a secluded place in a forest and raped her. They also performed other sexual acts on her.
During trial, the two pleaded not guilty and maintained that the sexual encounter was consensual.
