Prophet Gerry King likens Sir Wicknell Chivhayo's philanthropy to TB Joshua

Prominent independent preacher Prophet Gerry King has compared businessman and philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivhayo to the late Nigerian televangelist Prophet TB Joshua, saying the Zimbabwean entrepreneur has been blessed with a unique grace to receive wealth and use it to uplift others.

Speaking during a recent church service, Prophet King said God anoints certain individuals not only to prosper but to become channels through which blessings reach communities. "There are people that God gives the grace to receive," he told congregants. "TB Joshua had that grace. He would receive and he would give. He never asked for conditions."

Prophet King said he sees the same spirit in Chivhayo. "God is giving him, and he is turning around and giving to the people — widows, youths, the disabled, musicians. No conditions. That is the spirit of a Son of Consolation."

He referenced Barnabas, the biblical figure known in the New Testament as the "Son of Consolation" because of his generosity and support for the early Christian church. Prophet King said Chivhayo’s widely publicised acts of philanthropy reflected that same spirit of selfless giving.

Over the past two years, Chivhayo has made headlines for donating vehicles, houses, cash and business capital to individuals, churches, musicians and community members across Zimbabwe. While the donations have earned him praise from beneficiaries, they have also sparked public debate, with some critics questioning the source of his wealth. Prophet King said his focus was on the impact of the charitable initiatives. "Whether people understand it or not, the results are there. Families are eating. People are starting businesses. Cars are putting food on tables. If that is not God using a man, then what is it?"

The remarks have generated discussion on social media about wealth, faith and philanthropy, with many comparing Chivhayo’s public giving to the humanitarian work for which TB Joshua became known across Africa and beyond.

For Prophet King, the comparison was less about background and more about what he described as a shared willingness to give freely. "TB Joshua built schools and fed thousands. Sir Wicknell is building people. He is putting roofs over heads. That is the grace."

Concluding his sermon, Prophet King prayed for more Zimbabweans to embrace a culture of generosity, saying national development would be driven by citizens who use their resources to improve the lives of others. "Zimbabwe will be built by people who have and people who share," he said, adding momentum to ongoing conversations around faith‑based philanthropy and public giving in Zimbabwe.
