4 Zimbabwe soldiers die in road crash

Four members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) have died in a road traffic accident near Bromley along the Harare-Mutare Road.
The accident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 4pm when a BAW military vehicle carrying the soldiers was involved in a crash at the 45-kilometre peg near Bromley while travelling from Harare to Mutare.
The ZNA said four soldiers died at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Warrant Officer Class 1 Philimon Chamisa, Warrant Officer Class 2 Chindowa Lydia, Sergeant Mundicho Wellington Wonder and Lance Corporal Mupemhi Edmore.
Three other ZNA members sustained injuries in the accident and are receiving medical treatment.
Two of the injured soldiers were admitted to Marondera District Hospital, while the third was admitted to 2 Referral Hospital at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly known as KG6.
The ZNA said all three injured members were in a stable condition.
In a statement, ZNA Director Army Public Relations Colonel Hlengiwe Dube expressed condolences to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the soldiers who died.
"The ZNA extends its deepest condolences to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the four members who lost their lives in this tragic accident," Dube said.
She also wished the injured soldiers a speedy and full recovery.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police Marondera District Traffic Section is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The ZNA said burial arrangements for the deceased would be announced in due course.
