Saul Chaminuka fired at TelOne

TelOne have parted ways with head coach Saul Chaminuka following a disappointing run of results that has left the club fighting for survival in the top flight.
Chaminuka's future at the Gweru-based side had been the subject of growing speculation over the past two weeks, with the club's elimination from the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup appearing to be the final setback.
TelOne were knocked out of the competition by Central Region Soccer League side Blanket Mine, prompting the club's leadership to act.
In a brief statement, TelOne confirmed that the two parties had mutually agreed to end their working relationship with immediate effect.
"TelOne Football Club and Head Coach Saul Chaminuka have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately, following strategic discussions between both parties," the club said.
"The club extends its sincere gratitude to Coach Chaminuka for his service to the team. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours."
The veteran coach joined the WiFi Boys in May, replacing Herbert Maruwa, with the mandate of helping the struggling side avoid relegation.
However, Chaminuka managed just 14 points from 16 league matches in charge, leaving TelOne deep in relegation trouble with only eight matches remaining.
The club has now turned to former Warriors forward Joel Luphahla, who is expected to take charge as the new head coach.
Luphahla, who has previously coached Simba Bhora and FC Platinum, faces an immediate and daunting challenge of keeping TelOne in the top flight.
With eight matches remaining, TelOne reportedly need to win at least six games to give themselves a realistic chance of avoiding the relegation axe.
The coaching change comes at a critical stage of the season, with the club needing an immediate turnaround in fortunes to preserve their top-flight status.
