Police constable dies after Heroes Day performance

A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) constabulary died shortly after entertaining guests at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre during the national Heroes Day commemorations on Monday.
Shem Ganda, 57, collapsed while seated behind the Police Junior Call team after participating in performances at the commemorations.
He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Ganda, who is survived by his wife and eight children, is expected to be buried at his rural home in Madziwa.
His sudden death has shocked the Chitungwiza community and members of the police force, where he was widely regarded as a driving force behind the Police Junior Call programme and community policing initiatives.
Shortly before his death, Ganda had entertained guests at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre through a series of drills with the Junior Call team.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the death and said investigations were underway.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time," Nyathi said.
"Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are currently in progress.
"The body was subsequently conveyed to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination."
Ganda had served in the Junior Call programme for more than two decades and had built a strong reputation within both the ZRP and the Junior Call family.
Colleagues described him as passionate about working with young people and committed to promoting community safety.
The Police Junior Call is a ZRP initiative that engages young people in community policing activities, anti-crime prayer sessions and awareness campaigns targeting drug and substance abuse.
Ganda's death has left colleagues, friends and members of the communities he served mourning a police officer whose career was closely associated with youth engagement and community policing.
He is expected to be buried at his rural home in Madziwa, with funeral arrangements to be announced by the family.
