Woman alleges repeated rape at Madzibaba's shrine

A 21-year-old woman has alleged that she was repeatedly raped at a shrine in Budiriro after being ordered to remain there for spiritual healing.
The woman alleges that the abuse was perpetrated by Madzibaba Enock, whose real name is Hebert Senda, the leader of the Johane Masowe Yechishanu, Nyenyedzi Nomwe sect based in Budiriro 4, Harare.
According to the allegations, the woman initially visited the shrine seeking spiritual healing after falling ill and subsequently remained there for prayers.
She claims that in July 2025, she was awakened around midnight by a female church member who asked her to accompany her to Madzibaba Enock's vehicle, which was parked near the shrine.
The woman alleges that they found Senda alone in the vehicle.
"I was given a soft drink and felt dizzy after consuming it," she said.
She alleges that Senda then drove them to an unidentified lodge in Harare's central business district, where the female church member booked a room and took her inside.
According to the woman, Senda remained in his vehicle before later following them into the room.
She alleges that the female church member then left the room, leaving her alone with Senda.
"The female member then immediately left the room, leaving me and Madzibaba," she said.
"He raped me four times without protection and threatened to kill me if I divulged the matter."
The woman said Senda drove her back to the shrine the following morning.
She further alleges that the sexual abuse continued on several occasions whenever he had an opportunity.
"Since then, Madzibaba Enock has continued to rape me several times on different occasions whenever he gets the opportunity," she alleged.
The woman said she eventually managed to escape and recover her cellphone, after which she contacted her sister and reported the alleged abuse to the police.
The matter was reported at Budiriro Police Station under RRB 6872764.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
The allegations have not been tested in court, and Senda has not been convicted of any offence arising from the claims.
