Zambia opposition leaders handed to police

OPPOSITION leaders Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu have been handed over to Zambian police for questioning over alleged activities authorities say could threaten national security.

Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that the two opposition figures were being interviewed by a team of officers, with their lawyers present.

Chilabi said police would issue a statement after the conclusion of the interviews.

The two were reportedly summoned by police as part of an investigation into activities authorities allege posed a threat to national security.

Before being handed over to police, Mundubile and Zulu had been under the protection of the United Nations in Lusaka.
