The church has been urged to actively participate in the economic emancipation of women and the reduction of gender-based violence through tailor made empowerment programs for women.
The call was made by the Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Cde Oppah Muchinguri, while addressing the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ) women's conference aimed at unleashing the potential in women.
"Come up with programmes and my ministry is ready to support you. We have put aside 1,3 million dollars for projects.
"Add value to your products. You should empower yourselves as well," she said.
EFZ Advisory Council member, Apostle Mavis Gurupira, said the conference tackles issues concerning women in an endeavour to bring out the best in them, while addressing gender issues.
She said, "We are hoping that the attendance will see a shift in mentality for the women and see them rise above the various barriers."
Running under the theme "Let Your Baby Leap", the conference is an inspirational gathering for the women to realise their worth and offers workshops, counselling, religious doctrine and business issues among others.
