A MUTARE cross-border trader allegedly undressed her husband's girlfriend in public and assaulted her with a stick.

Brenda Chimana (25) appeared before senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura, facing allegations of assaulting Varaidzo Mukomwe whom she claimed was head-over-heels in love with her husband.

Chimana pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined $100 or alternatively 60 days imprisonment.

Mr Cuthbert Bhosha prosecuted.
The court heard that on September 30, Chimana confronted Mukomwe at Hob-House Clinic after she heard rumours of her alleged affair with her husband.

"The accused attacked the complainant and went on to undress her. She used a stick to beat her up in public," said Mr Bhosha.

The undressed Mukomwe rushed to Hob-House Police Base to make a report leading to Chimana's arrest.

Mukomwe was medically examined as she had sustained injuries all over her body.

Asked why she committed the offence, Chimana said the two had fought.

"I did not beat her up. We were fighting. Your Worship, I was angry because both my husband and Mukomwe confessed that they were having an affair behind my back," she said.

Mrs Chiundura advised her never to put the law into her own hands as she risked being jailed with her child and leaving her husband enjoying life with the alleged girlfriend.

"That is the reason we have the civil court. If you have evidence like you have just said, you are free to go and report your husband there," said Mrs Chiundura.
