HARARE - An abusive Harare man recently attacked his wife with a screwdriver and a hammer following a misunderstanding, the Civil Court heard last Friday.
Omega Madhanga claimed that her husband, Julias Muranda, was in the habit of using any weapon he finds around him to physically abuse her. Madhanga was seeking a protection order against Muranda whom she said was disturbing her peace.
"This man is abusive. Last week he attacked me with a screwdriver and a hammer over a petty misunderstanding," she said.
Madhanga told Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Babra Masinire that Muranda was in the habit of physically abusing her in front of their children.
"I am sick and tired of being abused by this shameless man. He insults me with vulgar words in the presence of our children," said Madhanga.
She claimed that Muranda was always threatening to kill her.
"I am now living in fear of losing my life because he is always threatening to kill me," Madhanga added.
Muranda refuted the allegations by Madhanga saying he was the one being abused verbally and physically.
"I am the one who is being abused by this woman because each time we fight she is the one who attacks me first," he said.
Muranda, however, said he was not opposed to the granting of the protection order.
Ms Masinire granted the order in Madhanga's favour which barred Muranda from verbally or physically abusing her.
She ordered Muranda to keep peace towards Madhanga at all times.
