A dangerous suspect who escaped from the Malamulele Magistrate's Court last month was apprehended in a secluded area between Letsitele and Nkowankowa in South Africa on Monday evening.

According to a statement supplied by the police, Madala Daniel Mhlango is an trial-awaiting prisoner  for a series of crimes he committed in the Ritavi and the Letsitele area. The alleged crimes include murder, vehicle hijacking and armed robberies. He escaped from a police van after appearing in court in July, said Limpopo police spokesperson Col Ronel Otto.

Initially, five prisoners had escaped in June after appearing in court. The prisoners were about to be transported to the police holding cells when they overpowered two officers. One handed himself to the police a day after the incident, while three were later captured.

"Three of them appeared in court on Friday on charges of escaping from lawful custody," Otto added. She mentioned that Mhlango will appear in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of escaping from lawful custody.
