'Drunk' 20-year-old falls into mineshaft, dies

A 20-YEAR-OLD "drunken" man died after he fell into a six-metre deep disused mine shaft in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province on Wednesday at around 2AM, police have confirmed.
Justin Mupande who was employed at Buttonword 4 Mine near Mbalabala met his death when he was coming from a beer binge with three friends.
According to sources, the four men - Mupande, Akim Nyathi, 36, Talent Mudenda, 23, and Zamani Mupande, 21, were said to have left their homes on Tuesday at around 5PM for a beer drink at Purpose Mine Compound.
On their way home Mupande fell into the mine shaft and died.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Thabani Mkwananzi confirmed the incident yesterday.
He said Mupande fell headlong into the pit and sustained severe head injuries.
"I can confirm that we received a report of a man who fell into a six-metre deep disused mine shaft.
"He as a result sustained serious injuries," said Sgt Mkwananzi.
