SHURUGWI - Midlands Minister of State Owen Ncube has officially commissioned a refurbished 9-body mortuary at Shurugwi District Hospital, a project made possible through a partnership between Chengetai Cheng Xi Investments, UNKI Mine, and the Shurugwi Town Council.
Valued at over US$30,000, the initiative included the installation of new cold room equipment, solar backup systems, and comprehensive renovations aimed at improving the hospital's capacity to handle deceased patients with dignity and efficiency.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister Ncube commended Cheng Xi Investments for their ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, which he said align with Vision 2030 under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
"Their support for community empowerment, infrastructure development, and assistance to local schools, prisons, and healthcare facilities is commendable and reflects the spirit of Vision 2030," Ncube said.
The mortuary upgrade is expected to significantly improve service delivery at the district hospital, especially in times of disaster and high demand.
