PLUMTREE - A 19‑year‑old man from Moneni village in Mangwe, Mxolisi Ncube, has been remanded in custody after allegedly raping a goat and later escaping from police detention.

Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware remanded Ncube to 30 December for trial, where he faces two counts: bestiality and escaping from lawful custody.

Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that on 8 December 2025 at around 10pm, the complainant, Dumoluhle Mnkandla, found Ncube inside a goat pen allegedly having sexual intercourse with a female goat. He was apprehended and handed over to police.

On 9 December, while in custody, Ncube requested water to drink. After officers opened the holding cell, he pushed one of them and fled.

Police re‑arrested him on 18 December, and he now awaits trial.
