Chiyangwa warns refs against bias, corruption

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president and Referees Committee chairman, Phillip Chiyangwa has warned referees against corruption, urging local match officials to be professional and strive for international recognition.
Newly appointed referees committee chairman, Dr Chiyangwa says biased and corrupt officiating will not be tolerated in the local game.
Dr Chiyangwa made the remarks at a meeting held to introduce himself to local match officials as the new ZIFA referees committee chairperson.
The ZIFA president who is being deputised by Gladmore Muzambi in the ZIFA Referees Committee outlined the important role that referees play in ensuring there is a peaceful environment at stadiums, urging local referees to continuously improve and strive to get appointments at international competitions.
Dr Chiyangwa also took the opportunity to warn perpetrators of violence against rowdy behaviour, declaring that violent fans will be brought to book.
The remarks follow disturbances during the recent Premier Soccer League encounter between Highlanders and Chicken Inn.
