On the 1st July, all roads lead to Nottingham for the annual Bukalanga Gathering event. As they say in Kalanga 'Akuto dan'wa uno dabila', (akubizwa ozwayo) Bakalanga are inviting all culture lovers based in the UK and beyond to attend this year's event.
The main objective of the event is cultural exchange, share and showcase different cultures, beliefs and customs and to show the world what means to love thy neighbour in a Kalanga way.
The day will include a question and answer session whereby the public will be asking various questions on what they long to understand as far as Kalanga and other cultural values are concerned.
"It's a day of trying to uplift one another, advising and educating each other as a community" says one of the organisers, Difa Wajapi Bango. "We also got a predicament of children born in the diaspora who still struggle to grasp the cultural norms of their parents", continues Bango.
"People should attend to celebrate Kalanga culture and heritage and reflect on theirs in the process. The event is also a day to have fun, network, share ideas and above all to have the population in the diaspora connecting with each other", says one organiser.
On display and on sell will be various delicious and scrumptious types of traditional dishes cooked and presented by the best Kalanga cookers. "Most of the cooks possess a well-trained background, trained neba Kadzikulu (old ladies)" says one organiser.
There will be unlimited entertainment with Kalanga albums on sell. This event will be broadcasting live on www.bukalanga.org hosting top Kalanga DJs. Behind the decks on the ground, will be Tish Malaba of Sinazo, the Kalanga house group that recently got nominated for two Bulawayo Arts Awards in the Outstanding Kwaito Group and the prestigious Song of the Year categories for their infectious hit track Kalanga child "Indira".
"The event will be an opportunity for us to go and celebrate our BAAzw double nomination with the people who obstinately supported us through thick and thin", expressed Sinazo leader Tish Malaba.
Facilities for children to play will be made available making the whole event a family friendly occasion.
The venue of the event is taking place at Greenway Community Centre, 3 Trent Lane, Nottingham. The post code is NG2 4DF. The programme starts at 1pm till late. The entry fee is: adults £5 and £2 fee for children.
