FORMER beauty queen Lorraine Maphala and businessman Sonny Phiri will soon be leaving the business world to work as servants of the Lord.
The newly weds made this revelation during a talk show segment during their wedding ceremony held on Saturday evening at a local hotel.
The two who have had their fair share of highs and lows as celebrities, solemnised their relationship and enjoyed the day with their close friends and family and also took the opportunity to share their secrets in a question and answer segment hosted by Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda.
"We are going to resign from business to go into ministry. I am glad Lorraine is very supportive and is always encouraging," said Phiri to applause from guests.
The type of music at the event also cemented the couple's devotion to Christ as Bulawayo star Eric Moyo opened the ceremony with Jonathan Butler's rendition of Falling in Love with Jesus.
One of the most burning questions from the floor was on the circumstances of their first meeting and how they ended up dating.
"I met Lorraine through a friend sometime in 2004 and I just liked her, by then she was Miss Malaika-Bulawayo and was on the cover of one of the magazines and I kept looking at the magazine.
"We then met again in 2008 in South Africa and we exchanged numbers and later became friends and started dating," said Phiri.
Maphala also said she just liked Phiri on the first day they met but later fell in love with him after their meeting in South Africa.
The former Miss Bulawayo had a chance to show the world one of her hidden talents when she sang the clique song which saw her winning the Miss Talents title at the Miss World final in 2005.
The couple was joined in holy matrimony by Pastor Clyde Bismarck at reception witnessed by about 200 guests.
Maphala wore a strapless white silk gown complemented by a gold and diamond ring.
Master of ceremonies Morris Touch and William Ndlovu did not disappoint guests as they kept them well entertained with their sense of humour.
The colourful event was graced by relatives and parents of the couple. Other guests included Bulawayo businessman, Omega Sibanda, Zanu-PF youth member Mlungisi Moyo, MDC spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube, Miss Botswana 2005 Lurato Tebogo, Miss Zimbabwe 2004, Oslie Muringai-Matsikinyeri, actress Tinopona Katsande popularly known as Joyce Huni.
Later on, Moyo, the 2008 Idols winner serenaded guests not only with gospel tunes but also proved his versatility with renditions from hitmakers such as the late Jabu Khanyile and Brenda Fassie and had the guests singing and dancing along.
Parents and friends of the couple took time to take photographs as well as celebrate through song and dance.
The couple is blessed with two children Ethan and Dineo.
