A Bulawayo man's night out ended in disaster after CCTV cameras allegedly caught him stealing goods worth nearly US$700 from a parked car outside a city nightclub.

Augustine Daniel Ndlovu (34), of Old Lobengula suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing theft charges. He was remanded in custody to October 6.

Prosecutor Catherine Kuzu told the court that on July 4, Ndlovu and his accomplices broke into a vehicle belonging to Mbongeni Moyo, which was parked at Marisha Club in the city.

"They opened the complainant's unlocked car and stole a Samsung S7 cellphone, a speaker box, a five-litre bottle of water and US$564," Kuzu said.

Unaware that they were being recorded, the suspects allegedly made off with the loot unnoticed. The theft only came to light when club security reviewed CCTV footage, which exposed the culprits in action.

A police report was filed, leading to swift investigations, arrests, and the recovery of some of the stolen property.

Ndlovu's accomplices are already on remand for the same offence.
