Former students of Zwelabo Secondary School in Nkayi under their grouping named Zwelabo Former Students Association (ZFSA) have donated books, soccer kit and 10 500 Rands for the drilling of a borehole at their former school

This was revealed by ZFSA secretary-general Mandla Moyo in an interview.

"ZFSA donated a soccer kit, 800 books, plus R10500 for the borehole. We are still recruiting so that at the end of the day we might be a bigger number, and do bigger things. ZFSA is a fully constituted organization formed and resumed operation in February 2021. Its membership comprises the former students of Zwelabo Secondary School and community members. Currently it boasts of 34 members," Moyo said.

"The association through, its chairperson, Nkosilathi Ncube accompanied by the Vice Secretary General, Thabani Nkomo, handed over 800 ( 72 page exercise ) books to the school on Monday the 28th of March 2022. They also handed over the seventeen-piece soccer kit. The duo also handed over ten thousand five hundred Rands (R10 500) as a donation to contribute to the drilling of the borehole. The funds were raised through contributions by members of the Association and other well wishers who responded to the call."

"As Zwelabo Former Students Association we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this noble cause."

Moyo said their plans are that they are committed to work hands and gloves with the school going forward.

"Mind you the school has only managed to drill the borehole but it's about 500m from where the teachers houses, the classroom blocks and semi-boarding houses are. The next stage will therefore ensure that the water gets to the above premises through pumps, tanks and piping. Through our membership we will continue raising the funds which we will give to the school as soon as possible to ensure that work is done," Moyo said.

"After that there is the building of dormitories, currently students from far areas who cannot walk from home everyday are using substandard buildings which is a way the school did to assist. Our association will come in in the future to help the school build the proper structures. Advice to fellow former students is that together we can make it. Imagine these donations are mostly by the effort of 34 members who are currently with the association and we had just had less than 12 months to raise all the funds. What if we can come from all corners and contribute whatever we can, just R20/ person/ month will go a long way."

Speaking after receiving the donation the school head Bheki Zikhali thanked the association for a great job.

He said Zwelabo Secondary was constructed in 1984 and at the time it had only two classrooms.

"Now it has improved a bit but we still have many challenges we face here.If we look at Zwelabo, it's now one of the best schools in Nkayi," Zikhali said.

School Development Committee Vice Chaiurperson Vusani Sibanda urged all those who passed through the school to join the association and assist with whatever they have.

He said their wish is that the water they get through the borehole shoul;d reach the school through pipes to develop the school and have teachers getting the precious liquid through taps.

He said their wish is to have the school field even developing into irrigation to contribute to the school confers.

He urged the association to continue to support the school.
