A 54-year-old self-styled prophet from Ruwa has been arrested for allegedly raping his wife's younger sister at a shrine in Sunway City.
Madzibaba Edmore Nyambo, a member of Johanne Masowe yeChishanu, is reportedly based in Sunway City, where he and his family previously lived at the church shrine before moving to Zimre Park.
According to reports, the complainant and her parents were congregants at Nyambo's shrine.
Nyambo allegedly proposed a romantic relationship with the complainant in 2020, claiming that the Holy Spirit had directed him to take her as his second wife.
The complainant reportedly rejected the proposal and informed her sister.
On another occasion, she visited her sister at the shrine and allegedly found Nyambo alone at home. While she was sweeping inside the house, he reportedly entered and raped her without using protection.
The complainant later disclosed the alleged rape to her sister and father. The family reportedly agreed to keep the matter secret.
However, the incident eventually came to the attention of the Harare East District Victim Friendly Unit after an individual allegedly tipped off the authorities.
During police interviews, the complainant reportedly disclosed the alleged rape, leading to Nyambo's arrest.
The case was reportedly recorded at Ruwa Police Station under reference number RRB 6950559.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.
Nyambo's arrest follows allegations that remain subject to police investigation and judicial proceedings.
