A MARANGE man and her stepdaughter were yesterday sentenced to eight months imprisonment after being convicted of having an incestuous relationship, which resulted in the birth of a child.
Zekias Mukurachaza (32) who is Macloline Garira's (18) stepfather, appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makhala, who suspended two months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
Another six months were suspended on condition that the pair performed 210 hours of community service at Maponde Primary School.
Prosecutor Matthew Chimutunga told the court that the complainant, Memory Biningu and Mukurachaza are husband and wife. Garira is the complainant's daughter.
It is the State case that in 2017 and at Muponde village under Chief Marange, Biningu left home to attend a church service for a week.
When she came back, she was informed that her daughter had started running away from school and that she was having an affair with her stepfather, taking advantage of her mother's absence.
Garira denied the affair, but gave birth months later. Mukurachaza then chased Biningu away from their matrimonial home and moved in with the step-daughter-turned-wife.
