Former special advisor to the late MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai, Alex Magaisa, has called on the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission to prosecute Health Minister Obadiah Moyo for violating the Electoral Act.

In a letter that has been widely circulated on social media, Moyo writes to Zanu-PF commissar Victor Matemadanda advising that he has acceded to requests to supply medicines to clinics in Lupane which the party wants to use to campaign for the Lupane East by election set for August.

Matemadanda had requested for medicines for Lupaka, Gomoza, St Pauls, Lake Alice, Lusulu and Lupanda clinics.

"This letter has been widely circulated. If genuine, then ZACC has a good candidate for investigation re: criminal abuse of office. If the head of NatPharm was jailed for raising drugs' prices, how about a Minister who directs the company assist a party to buy votes?," said Magaisa on Monday.

"If ZACC won't take it then the Zimbabwe Republic Police can't ignore it either. If genuine, and there's good grounds for investigation, there is on the face of it an offence of bribery under the Electoral Act."

Zanu-PF will be represented at the Lupane East by elections by former Matabeleland North youth Chairperson Mbongeni Dube while the MDC Alliance has fielded former Senator of the area Dalumuzi Khumalo.

The Lupane East seat fell vacant after the death of Zanu-PF MP for the area Sithembile Gumbo died after a long illness.
