A 33-YEAR-OLD Mazowe Henderson Research security guard drowned yesterday at Mazowe dam where he was allegedly caught poaching fish by Zimbabwe National Parks (ZimParks) officials.

Martin Chisimba's body was retrieved this afternoon by the police sub-aqua unit.

A witness who identified himself as Moto told Bulawayo24.com that Chisimbe was illegally fishing in the dam using nets and a canoe when Parks officials approached him using a speed boat and he drowned after being told to go outside the dam.

"PARKS Officials who were using a speed boat approached the guard who was fish poaching and ordered him to go outside the dam and as they drove off Chisimbe drowned we are not sure if he drowned as a result of a splash of the wave from the boat or it was just fear."

According to Parks and Wildlife Act the use of fishing nets without a permit is a criminal offense under section 85.
