A man from Bulawayo suffered the indignity of being killed by his own weapon after a man waylaid him as he headed home, snatched his knobkerrie and hit him on the head with it, resulting in his death.
The man, Sikhumbuzo Ncube (32), was allegedly killed after being hit on the head above the left ear by Gift Nyabando (33), who happens to be his neighbour.
The incident happened on December 9 around 11pm.
It is said that the now deceased was on his way home after he parked his kombi at Entumbane Nkatha car park near Yonnah Shopping Centre and met Nyabando on a footpath that led to their homes.
"The rumour mill has it that Nyabando wanted to rob Ncube as he believed he had money because he was a kombi driver," said a neighbour.
After snatching the knobkerrie and hitting Ncube with it, Nyabando left Ncube lying on the ground and reported the matter at Entumbane police station.
Unbeknown to Nyabando, Ncube managed to dust himself up and proceeded to his home where he informed his wife, Silibaziso Moyo (29), about the ordeal.
At round 12.45, couple went to Entumbane police station to make a report.
Upon arrival, they found Nyabando still at the police station and Ncube positively identified him as the aggressor.
While he was narrating what happened, the bleeding Ncube, whose shirt was soaked with blood, became dizzy and requested to go outside for fresh air. The police called an ambulance and he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died upon admission.
Nyabando was then arrested.
Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and advised the public to avoid carrying dangerous weapons wherever they go.
"If an argument starts between people they should report to the police than to engage in fights which might lead to death," said Ncube.
