A 66-year-old Tsholotsho man died after he was allegedly attacked by four men who accused him of attacking their friend.
Matabeleland North Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident which occurred on Tuesday.
He identified the deceased as Mr Job Maphosa of Mlotheni Line.
"We are investigating a case of murder which occurred at Simanje Line Business centre under Chief Gampu.
Circumstances are that on the said day on 21 December 2021, Job Maphosa entered Tshuma bottle store armed with a machete and a sjambok.
He struck Tafadzwa Kasirobi (23) of Matshudula line with a machete on the forehead accusing him of being disrespectful. Kasirobi ran outside and fled as Maphosa chased after him," said Insp Banda.
He said Kasirobi's friends, Mfowethu Sibanda (24), Buzani Sithole (18) Bongani Mlingo (28) and Thabane Dlodlo (19) all under Chief Gampu then attacked Maphosa in retaliation.
Insp Banda said they struck him all over the body but at some point, Maphosa struck Dlodlo with a machete on the left hip.
"The four managed to disarm Maphosa and then struck him with his own machete on the forehead, left chick, back and neck.
He died on the spot and his body was found by a passerby lying in a pool of blood at about 10PM," said Insp Banda.
Insp Banda said the four are on the run and urged members of the public who might have information on their whereabouts to contact any nearest police station.
