President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially announced that by-elections for the Gutu West parliamentary constituency and four rural district council wards will be held on November 11, 2023. These elections are being conducted due to the deaths of duly nominated candidates before last month's general polls, which invalidated the previous election proceedings, as per section 50 (1) (a) of the Electoral Act.
The nomination court for the Gutu West by-election is scheduled to convene on October 10 at the Masvingo magistrates' court, specifically for the constituency. The Gutu West by-election was postponed after independent candidate Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi, who had been duly nominated, tragically passed away in a road traffic accident. John Paradza is the Zanu-PF candidate for the upcoming Gutu West by-election.
Additionally, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana has announced that another by-election for Hurungwe Ward 24 will take place on a yet-to-be-announced date. This by-election is necessary following the death of the councillor who had won in the August 23 poll.
