Charumbira welcomes PAP audit

Chief Fortune Charumbira, President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), has endorsed the African Union's executive council's decision to conduct a forensic audit of the organization. This move follows internal conflicts from August to February, during which PAP Vice President Dr. Ashebir Gayo assumed control without proper procedure after Chief Charumbira stepped down due to Zimbabwe's elections.
Dr. Gayo's allegations of financial impropriety against Charumbira prompted the call for an audit. Charumbira welcomed this audit during the ongoing third session of the sixth PAP in Midrand, South Africa, viewing it as an opportunity to restore PAP's reputation. He emphasized that the audit would not incriminate him, attributing the allegations to false and malicious intent.
The conflicts have affected PAP's credibility and its ability to secure additional funding. Dr. Gayo, who advocated for unity among PAP members, supported the call for cooperation and progress. Chief Charumbira was re-elected as PAP President in February.
