Bulawayo police have arrested Tatenda Chida, 26, in connection with the murder of Sikhanyiso Bruce Dube, 30, from Pumula North. The incident, which occurred on October 22, 2024, reportedly stemmed from a minor disagreement that escalated into a deadly altercation.

According to Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Bulawayo's deputy police spokesperson, Dube and Chida were gathered at a local butchery, braaing meat, when the dispute began. Dube inadvertently touched Chida’s food, triggering a confrontation. Witnesses reported that Chida allegedly reacted violently, kicking Dube in the spine and striking him in the face. Friends assisted Dube in leaving the scene, but tragically, he was found dead two days later under a tree near Pumula High School.

A passerby initially mistook Dube for an intoxicated individual, only to discover upon closer inspection that he was unresponsive. The authorities were alerted, and an autopsy later revealed that Dube had sustained severe head injuries and brain trauma, confirming homicide as the cause of death.

After an extensive search, Chida was apprehended on November 10 at the intersection of JMN Nkomo Street and 4th Avenue. He reportedly confessed to the assault and remains in police custody, where he is assisting with further investigations.

The Bulawayo police have issued a reminder to the community about the importance of handling disputes peacefully to avoid unnecessary violence and loss of life.
