A tragic accident in Matiashe Village, Chimanimani, has claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl who sustained severe scalds after accidentally colliding with her grandmother, who was carrying a bucket of hot water.

The incident, which occurred on November 27, 2024, left the young girl with burns on her head, stomach, and back after the hot water spilled over her. According to a police statement, the victim bumped into her grandmother, causing her to fall to the ground and spilling the hot water onto her.

The child was immediately rushed to Beitbridge Hospital for treatment but tragically succumbed to her injuries the following day, on November 28, 2024. "The victim sustained serious burns and died while receiving medical treatment," the police reported.

This heartbreaking incident follows a similar tragedy earlier in November when a 6-month-old baby in Harare lost their life after falling into a bucket of hot water. The baby, who had been left near a couch where the hot water-filled bucket was placed, was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead upon arrival on November 15, 2024.

These incidents highlight the dangers of handling hot liquids near children and underscore the importance of taking extra precautions to avoid such accidents. Local authorities have urged parents and caregivers to be vigilant and ensure that hot liquids are kept safely out of children's reach to prevent further tragedies.
