Honda Fit driver ploughs into church congregants killing 1

A tragic accident occurred early this morning in Nketa, Bulawayo, when a Honda Fit driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into 11 members of the Johanne Masowe Church who were returning from night prayers.

One victim died on the spot after being trapped beneath the vehicle, while the others sustained varying degrees of injuries, including fractures, spinal injuries, and lacerations.

The accident happened near Chicken Corner leisure outlet, located between Nketa Drive and Masiyephambili Drive. Members of the Bulawayo Fire Brigade rushed to the scene to assist.

"Upon arrival, the Brigade found 11 people lying on the ground, some with fractures, spine injuries, and lacerations. A Honda Fit was found in a ditch with one person trapped underneath, who was suspected to be dead on arrival. The Brigade extricated the trapped victim and conveyed the injured individuals to Mpilo Hospital," said Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Mhlangano Moyo.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the devastating crash.

"The information we gathered is that the Honda Fit driver lost control and ploughed into a group of Johanne Masowe Church members who were returning from night prayers. The deceased was handed over to ZRP details. The vehicle and the roadway were rendered safe by the Brigade," added Mr. Moyo.

The injured victims were transported to Mpilo Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased's body was handed over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for further procedures.

Authorities are conducting further investigations into the accident. Meanwhile, the tragedy has left the community in shock and mourning as they grapple with the devastating loss of life and injuries sustained by the victims.
